red lettuce and green lettuce |
We went out into the nearby countryside about 50 miles for a ride and there are fields and fields of beautiful looking fresh veggies. We saw kale, red lettuce, green lettuce, romaine lettuce, cabbage, brussel sprouts, date palms, oranges, lemons, and onions. The fields were spotless from weeds. We did see crews of workers hoeing in the fields.

Romaine Lettuce - so thick |
After the notorious summer heat here in Yuma, the temperature drops just enough to create the country’s longest growing season. Yuma County is the winter lettuce capital of the world, supplying a
whopping 90% of the nation’s leafy vegetables between November and
March. The crops look beautiful.
