We haven't been lost for at least a week

March 13/2019  Weather is sunny and outstanding today. 80/58  There is a back road to Comfort; which is a cute little town about 20 miles away.  Away we go.  We have been down this road many times and we always catch the way in along the cypress trees.  Just before we caught the road  we saw another biker ahead of us about a mile and we thought.... hmmmm.... Wonder where he is going?  Billy decided lets turn here and follow him.  A few miles farther and the road changed names and a few miles farther and the road changed names and then a few miles farther and the biker is heading back the other way past us!  But the road looks pretty neat so we just keep heading out as long as it stays pavement.  Now it is a bit narrower and then freerange livestock blocking our road.

Very Slowly we sneak along.  By now we are quite a bit longer than we normally should be to Comfort and we really had no idea what direction we were driving in.   So stopped to ask a couple of ranchers by the road way if we were close to Comfort?  Haha they laughed..... No your going the wrong way.  They were great, they told us another ranch road to turn onto and then take a right for about 15 miles on a main highway.

Once in Comfort we found a new bistro to try and then snooped around town, taking the side streets and enjoying the architecture.  It is has many historic homes from the 1850's as the German immigrants were the Freethinker movement that settled here.  
On our return trip we took the Cypress Creek Road and didn't take any sidetrips down the ranch roads.  The fun rides are definitely the ones we get lost on!

Favorite Little Texas Town called Comfort

March 17/2018  Weather hot today, 84 and the night a low of 50.  Bit humid.

We have been several times to the town of Comfort but it is so darn cute and the ride to it is so relaxing on the Harley we just have to go again.

We take the back roads and then walk around downtown, in and out of little antique shops, the old Bank which is now the visitor center, a bistro for some great lunch,

  Today our friends took us for a ride to Centerpoint for a burger then up a long Skyline Drive in Comfort.  Just a regular day and another beautiful Hill Country Road.  NOT.

What appeared was a beautiful 18,000 square foot Antebellum home built in the 80`s.  It is perched high above the hills.  We pulled into the gated driveway and the story behind the gates took shape.

This 645 acre property is owned by Stasis Foundation who have plans to build a $200 million cryonics castle.
Just so you understand the scope of what will be coming...
Human cryopreservation has been around for about 40 years, Patients have been frozen to the temperature of liquid nitrogen, which stops all biological and chemical activity.   Earlier cryopreservation technology, though, led to ice crystals that damage tissues and cells. (Think freezer burn.)
Under a process called vitrification, however, something akin to antifreeze is added to water to prevent water molecules from assembling and forming ice. The water becomes solid but doesn't freeze.
The fortress — dubbed the “Timeship” by its creators — will be a “Fort Knox” for the cryopreservation of patients, organs, the DNA of humans and endangered species, stem cells and tissue samples.

A research facility, exhibition area, assembly plant and conference center also are planned. Stasis' plans also include the construction of a facility to assemble Thermos-like vessels to store bodies and heads — for those who choose the neuro option. Stasis holds a patent for a cryogenic storage system.  The Timeship will hold 50,000 vessels and be the largest in the world. 
So now when we are standing at the gates we can just try to grasp all this,,,, the ride was into the future.    Wow.

March 27/17  Weather has been perfect for riding.  Hovering around 80 everyday and 55 +  at night.  We have been out riding everyday.  Those wheels are turning!  Seems most days the guys say "Where are we eating today?"

 So here is the list of small towns in the last week - Luckenbach, Welfare, Waring,  Bandera, Comfort, Boerne, Leakey, Hunt, Ingram and right here in Kerrville.    Now the name Welfare for a town, just has to peak your curiousity????

Some of the days have been almost 200 miles and other days only 50 miles.  This 'Hill Country' area is just a great area for exploring.  Motorcycles, Antique Hunters, Jewellery, Cowboy stuff, Thrift shops, Foodies, Hand Crafts, Wild Exotic Animals, Hunting, Spring Wildflowers, Wineries,,,,,,,   the list goes on and on.  If you have an interest you will likely find it here.

Comfort

March 15/16 Comfort.  What a nice name for a town.   Makes you want to visit, doesn't it? Comfort.  Let's go explore.
History abounds in this little town.  Back in the late 1800's a group of highly educated Germans moved into this area.   They were fleeing political and religious tyranny.  They were the Freethinkers.  Approximately 1,000 immigrated to the Hill Country in Texas and settled across the area.  One little town was Comfort; a group of 33 individuals led by a Dr.    These people were nobles, philosophers, doctors, scientists, engineers - all highly educated, intelligent people.  Just wanting to be able to form their own opinions on the basis of intellectual reasoning power!   Thus the name.    The group mastered the art of pioneer farming and stayed on for generations,  still today.  The toil of living in the rudimentary cabins and rough living conditions became ironic.  The settlement was referred to as Camp Comfort.  Later the camp part of the name was dropped and the village remained known as Comfort.   The irony was that it wasn't comfortable at all!!!! Today the town is a treasure trove of antique stores and other interesting quaint shopping.  My favorite store was The Tinsmith's Wife.   A needle craft shop.  Just gorgeous, the best one we have ever been in.   Quality yarn and supplies in a vintage old building with rooms that make you want to sit down and start a project right now.  One room had a couch and fireplace and beautiful handiwork on the walls.  Billy left me there for about an hour and he went and found us a great little restaurant to have lunch.   I did not disappoint myself when he returned - I did purchase some yarn for a knitting project, even though I have little experience..... which I excitedly told him about on our way to the cafe for lunch.  (he is so patient.... as if he cares, ha ha.)
