Northern Cascades National Park and the shades of Green

Sept 3/2014  Weather cold today high of 62 mostly cloudy, nasty storm last night with hail and plenty of rainfall.  Low of 58.  Not much change between night & day.
Don't be fooled that's fake snow on the sign
Oh yeah we can hear our friend Don now telling us "all it does is rain in Washington, you don't want to go there"!!  First day it was beautiful, second day the sky caved in with rain, third day it tried and tried but the sun just didn't come out till 4pm when we were almost back from our motorcycle ride.   We left in the morning for the Northern Cascade Mountain Range and the clouds were eerily laying amongst the peaks as we climbed into the rugged terrain.
Volcanic peaks and jewelled coloured lakes
The road is a motorcycle rider's dream.   We thought Pennsylvania was the state that had more shades of green than anywhere else but Washington might be ahead of them.
Driving into the trees

The Park byway has sweeping corners, elevation changes and views riding along the river and canyons and glaciers and lakes and  waterfalls to keep your senses filled.  What was most amazing here was the size of the cedar trees, about 200 to 300 feet tall.   I tried to take a picture but it took 3 shots to get 1 tree in :)
moss everywhere
the moss felt like velvet
In some regions of the park it was extremely wet, and we hit rain in those areas as if it we were driving through a rain forest.  In those spots there was moss growing everywhere....the colour of the moss was fluorescent with the light and it was like carpet on the rocks and the tree trunks and branches.
Cog train looks like its coming right at Billy!

It was the first day we felt like Fall is coming.  Never took those leathers off all day!  Back at camp we had a hot bowl of chili and a good nights sleep from the refreshing day.
